So far, the only “scholarly articles” I’ve used are the rape statistics I got online. Most of the others are blogs, since Miss Chambers said that those would be appropriate for my research, so that made it a lot easier for me. The scholarly articles that I started out with were insanely confusing, and ridiculously long. The flowery language that they use is so hard to understand, while blogs are way more casual and relaxed. Given, there are a lot of terms that probably shouldn’t be used in an academic research paper, but thankfully none of my quotes had any of them. I like the concept of my paper and I’m really happy I chose to stick to feminism instead of the technology side of Dollhouse, since I don’t think it would be as simple to find easy-to-read material on that. Plus, I’m actually really interested in feminism and I enjoyed reading the blogs and seeing what people thought about Dollhouse. Being familiar with the show, it was nice to compare my insights and thoughts to those of die-hard fans and viewers who really followed the show. I think I’m actually going to be able to finish 5 whole pages for this draft, which makes me feel really good since I usually do the bare minimum number of pages when it comes to papers like these. That’s not the best habit to have when writing papers, so hopefully that’ll change as time goes by. By the time I graduate I want to be very articulate and have impeccable grammar and vocab. But that’s shooting pretty high.
I am glad that you have found some blogs on your topic, they probably give you a lot of ideas on what to write about.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Yujie.
ReplyDeleteYujie: Yeah, I'm pretty happy with them too! :-) they were so much easier to read and write about.
ReplyDeleteBryce: Yeah, the scholarly articles were no fun at all.
